Over the years the former leader of The Smiths has gained one of the most loyal fan bases in the music industry. Morrissey or sometimes referred to as Moz, has captured the hearts of Mexican Americans. But why?

Many say it’s the melancholy ballads which deal with heartbreak that many of his fans can relate to. His lyrics have also been compared to Vicente Fernández’s lyrics which created an admiration within the fan base.

Morrissey also being a first-generation immigrant plays a role in this. He was born from Irish parents and was raised in England which inspired his song, “Irish Blood, English Heart.” Many Mexican American can relate to this very same feeling. Alienation has brought fans to feel close to Morrissey.

The feeling also seems to be mutual; Morrissey has gone to say many times that he loves Mexico. In 1999 at one of his tour stops in Las Vegas he said to the crowd, “I wish I was born Mexican,” which I'm sure many fans appreciated.

Morrissey continues to tour and is set to make a couple of stops this fall in Ontario, Los Angeles, El Cajon, Oakland and San Francisco. Morrissey is clearly showing California some love.
